Surprize visitors
Ray has been helping out the Rangers from the Timucuan Preserve with their summer kids kayaking program. This is the second summer for the program where inner city kids from Jacksonville get to spend the day kayaking and learning about the environment.
This past Monday they had some special, unexpected visitors join them in the water. A Momma Manatee and three babies came swimming right up to the group. At first the kids were a bit afraid of the large sea cows but soon they were all standing waist deep in the water as the manatees swam around them. This went on for about 45 minutes. A few times they rolled over asking for belly rubs with their flippers.
So as a follow up to a previous newsletter.....what will you see when you kayak?..... manatees? possibly ..... it doesn't happen often, which just makes it all the more special when it does. But you've got to get out there! - jh

Hupp & Ray
One of our guides, Hupp, is a musician and plays at many of the local eateries and bars on Amelia Island. Ray has started playing with him occasionally and, I know I may be biased, but they sound AWESOME! If you want to spend an enjoyable evening dining al fresco and listening to some great music they will be at the Cafe Karibo on
Friday July 25 and Saturday August 30
You can find Hupp's complete schedule HERE

Why do people kayak?
The reasons visitors kayak are varied...... explore nature, family outing, learn about kayaking, try it out before buying a kayak....... One reason that I've heard occasionally is a bit more special. Picture this .... paddling a kayak with your boyfriend, you stop on a secluded sandy beach, as you sit there watching the birds fly over the marsh he drops to one knee and ....... that's right! proposes to you! How incredibly romantic!!!! This has happened a few times, that we've known about. Who says romance is dead! If you are planning something special like this, let us know and we'll try to help you make it go as smoothly as possible. -jh
We've started to notice that our regular customers were developing great upper body strength but their legs needed some help! So.....
we've added Bike Eco-tours!!!

Explore the uplands hammock of Talbot Islands and Ft. Clinch State Parks. This is NOT mountain biking! We will peddle the gently rolling trails on comfy Trek 300 bikes. Huge old oak trees shade the path. Various song birds, gopher tortoises, armadillos are the local residents.
And to answer the all important question that is on everyone's mind
Yes there will be cookies!
